Alysa
Thornton
President
Alysa Thornton has her undergraduate degree in microbiology from The University of Texas at El Paso. She worked with ProScribe for 3 years as an Implementation Coordinator training new scribes and working in different emergency departments around the U.S, this is where she developed her passion for the emergency department and traveling. She is currently a M.D. candidate at UAG school of Medicine and is hoping to continue her career as a future Emergency Medicine Physician. Alysa is currently moving to Phoenix Arizona to conduct her clinical rotations there with Abrazo Health Network. Additionally, she will continue as one of the medical assistants with Guimedic Humanitarian Medical Association and will soon begin conducting research with that organization. Fun facts about Alysa: She loves to travel, she has been to 18 countries, is passionate about learning languages, she knows English, Spanish, and Russian, and is a dog mom to a beautiful Yorkie named Chanel.

Luis Fernando
Internal Vice President
Luis F. Espinet Maldonado is his official name but his friends call him by ¨Luisfe¨. He is a puertorican third semester medical student at UAG. He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at PUCPR. Luisfe considers himself as a very out-going person who is always involved in sports and extracurricular activities. Briefly, he decided to study medicine for many reasons, but mainly because he strongly believes it is priceless to have the capability of helping others to have a better quality of life. His goal after graduating is to be competitive enough to get into internal medicine or cardiology residencies in US hospitals. That is one of the reason he decided to join IMIG at UAG. This association helps students to obtain great resources, learn medical skills, find mentoring programs, and inform the student community about different opportunities related to rotations and residencies programs. He makes himself available to help, orientate or guide you in any concern about this medical career.

Noel Hawkins
External Vice President
Noel Hawkins is a recent Biochemistry and Molecular Biology graduate of the challenging natural and science program at Grand Canyon University. From sunny southern California, he is an international student, whose passion to help others can be seen from a very early age. Beginning with early visits to shadow a pain and spine specialist all the way to working as a medical scribe, Noel can always be found in the medical field. When he’s not studying for school, you can find him enjoying a good workout at the gym or traveling with friends! Antonio Carlo Rullan Declet
3rd Semester Representative
Antonio Rullan Declet has an undergraduate degree in biology from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico. Started working in agriculture at the company Bayer Crop Science, but decided to pursue his passion which is medicine. He is currently a student of medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and participating in the organization Guimedic. Medicine has always been his goal and found fascinating the science of the human body but mostly how to restore health when affected. He has great interest in surgery but along the journey he will decide the path to choose. His hobbies include working in the family farm, planting, riding horses, playing with his dogs, also enjoys playing all types of sports and a good road trip when he has the chance.

Garcia
4th Semester Representative
Ruby Garcia received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at El Paso in the emergency, telemetry and covid units. She worked as a registered nurse for the past 3 years with The Hospitals of Providence. Opened a temporary vaccination clinic along with other hospital coworkers during 2020-2021 to administer COVID-19 vaccines to her community. Also worked for 9 months with administration at an assisted nursing skilled facility at El Paso, Texas. She is now part of the GUIMEDICS volunteer program in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Fun facts about Ruby: you will always find her drinking coffee or at the gym, always on the go.

Valerio
5th Semester Representative
Mary J. Valerio Rivera has a bachelor's degree in Biology Human Approach from the University of Puerto Rico. While an undergraduate student, I participated in and led various associations such as AMSA. He also volunteered at philanthropic events such as Susan G. Komen and Community Initiative with Dr. Vargas Vidot, where he provided medical attention and basic necessities to homeless peoplet. He stood out as a research student in women's health from the Department of Research and Development, VA Caribbean Healthcare System. As part of the Molecular science research center at the University of Puerto Rico, he presented his research entitled "Hyperthermia treatment of cervical cancer cells using carbon nanotubes excited with near-infrared and radiofrequency radiation" at ACS Junior Technical Meeting. She is currently studying medicine at UAG School of Medicine to become an endocrinologist. During her stay in Mexico, she participates as a Guimedic Humanitarian Medical Association volunteer providing medical care to low-income communities. Besides getting involved in science, Mary Valerio likes to travel, connect with nature, exercise, read, and spend time with friends and family. She, like her, dances Puerto Rican bomba and other musical rhythms since, apart from science, she has studied dance.

Munoz
National Program Representative
Victor J. Muñoz is currently a 4th semester student at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara from the national program. He graduated from Colegio Cervantes Costa Rica High School. He is certified by the Cruz Roja Mexicana in intermediate first aids. He’s hoping to continue his career as a future Orthopedic Traumatologist. He is passionate about his career, investigation in cancer treatment and new orthopedic surgery techniques. He has attended several sports events as a paramedic, and been a volunteer in vaccination against COVID-19 in UAG. He has also worked in Galilea 2000 A.C. a non-profit organization that helps patients from the Hospital Civil de Guadalajara, providing them personal care products, food, toys for the kids, clothes for the poor, etc.

Is currently a 4th year medical student from UAG School of Medicine. He received his Bachelor’s of Science from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He likes sports and outdoor activities. He has volunteered in different organizations and enjoys meeting new people. He desires to pursue his career in Emergency Medicine and sub specialize in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Yonelie González Torres accomplished her bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Ponce. Currently, she is a 2nd-year medical student at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. Volunteered this past winter break at Long Island Cardiovascular Consultants, P. C., New Hyde Park, NY. She is part of the GUIMEDICS Volunteer Program in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Her field of interest is Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Oncology, and Cardiology. Some fun facts about Yonelie are that she loves photography, traveling, and visiting beaches.

Lois Nestor has her undergraduate degree in biology from Biola University, master’s degree in public health from Boston University. She is currently a M.D. candidate at UAG school of Medicine. She is passionate about health equity and volunteers with Guimedic Humanitarian Medical Association.

Danniel
Sanchez
Treasurer
Danniel Sanchez is currently a 3rd year medical student. With a background in hormone research and two major degrees in Biology and Chemistry along with a minor in Medical ethics. He has established self-sustaining programs in both New York and California. These programs provide aid to low income communities while allowing individuals growing in their field to give back. He is a retired professional video gamer and enjoys training in MMA, however, in the end hopes to become a surgeon.

Jesus Rascon

Jesus Rascon obtained his undergraduate degree in molecular and cellular biology at University of California Merced. The past two years Jesus has worked as a research lab assistant at the University of California Merced as well as a medical scribe for a Internal medicine clinic located in Stockton, California. He is currently a M.D candidate at UAG school of Medicine. His aspirations include pursuing a career in the Internal medicine field. Hobbies and interests of Jesus include watching basketball, going to the gym, going on hikes, meeting new people and drinking coffee.

Abel Rodriguez

Abel Rodriguez is currently a 3rd year medical student and obtained his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. His interest in medicine started in high school and his passion for medicine grew by working for 4 years in the emergency department as a medical scribe where he was also an implementation trainer. He likes baseball, video games, movies, traveling, coffee and desires to pursue a career in internal medicine.
